10 Habits You Should Start Today

While I am not a perfectionist by any means, I am a firm believer that we should always be looking for ways to better ourselves. So I came up with a list of some of the things that have helped me to become a better me. Implement these ten habits in your life to become a higher functioning you!

Sleeping Earlier

Going to bed early benefits several areas of your life such, as health, attitude, and productivity. If you go to bed earlier, you will be able to wake up earlier and do more things. Sleeping is very important to having a successful day. Sometimes it’s harder said than done, as I am writing this at 4 am.

Drinking Water

There are many health benefits of drinking water. It hydrates your body from the inside out. Drinking water can reduce headaches, give you healthier skin and hair, and so many other great things. So drink up!

Smiling

Whenever you are having a bad day, try making an effort to keep a smile on your face. If you are persistent, you will start remembering reasons you can be happy. Smiling will brighten your day, as well as the day for the people around you.

Complimenting People

Making others feel good about themselves can be very rewarding. I am not saying you should flatter someone, or say something that is not true. But you can tell people about the good things you see in them. Soon enough people will start reciprocating the compliments to you. If you lift other people up, they will be there for you when you need lifted up.

Thinking Positively About Yourself

We all have a lot of self-doubt deep down inside. We all have regrets and things about ourselves that we don’t like. But it’s important we don’t dwell on these things and rather focus on the good things about ourselves.

Meditating/Thinking

Sometimes it is a really great thing to sit back and think about how you are doing. Think about how you are feeling and why you are feeling that way. This can be especially helpful if you are upset about something. Think about why you are upset, and what you can do to possibly change that. If you cannot change it, think about ways to overcome it. Remember, there is always a bright side.

Dressing Up

This doesn’t have to be an everyday thing. But every once in a while take extra good care of yourself and go out looking real fine. It will boost your self-confidence and even give you more of a passion for a better future. At least it has for me.

Walking

One of the best exercises is walking. It can help you lose weight, stay fit, lower blood pressure, and many other things. Walking helps to relieve stress. If you’re having a tough moment, go for a walk to clear your mind.

Eating Wholesome Meals

Getting a good meal can work wonders. It makes you happier, makes you healthier, and makes your day brighter. I definitely do not have time to eat three great meals a day. I am assuming you don’t either. Do what I do, and make it a point to eat one great meal a day.

Reward Yourself

I talked about this in my other post about how to survive college. But honestly, this is something that works for all aspects of life. Set goals in your life and reward yourself for completing those goals. Reward yourself with something little at the end of the week. For me, it is a cup of coffee and a cheese Danish from Starbucks. But it can be anything. But give yourself something to look forward to.
